Summer Entertaining

One of the things I really missed when we lived in our apartment was entertaining. I missed planning parties, having people over, and cooking lots of yummy food.

Back in college, we would plan fun 'parties' for the girls (and sometimes the guys) on the cross country/track team all the time. The Thanksgiving Extravaganza, Valentine's Brunch, NCAA Championship combined with an Easter egg hunt. Whenever there was a major holiday, we had a party. And I got to plan it. :-P And I loved it.

So, when we moved into our new house, I got so excited to have people over! And they actually would be able to sit down somewhere! Heh.

Last night, we invited my Business Man's team along with their families over for dinner. We had great intentions of grilling, relaxing outside on our rockin' new patio, and playing some corn hole. Unfortunately the weather had different thoughts.

We were definitely cooped up inside with the A/C. But that didn't stop us  my Business Man from using the grill. (He got to be all sweaty outside in the heat... mua ha ha.)

Started with some appetizers - Crazy Feta (from How Sweet It Is) and some good ole' veggies & dip.

For the main dish, made some of our favorite burgers, but turned them into sliders so people could try more than one kind. [Side note: a suggestion - don't do this for a large group of people. Grilling 36 mini burgers at once is a little intense. And remembering which toppings go on which burger, with which type of bun, ay ay ay.] It all turned out great, just made for a lot of work last minute.

Cheeseburger Sliders, BBQ Chicken Sliders, and Hawaiian Beef Sliders

We also had watermelon, sweet potato salad (really weird; won't make again), and kettle chips.

And the best baked beans I've ever eaten. Thanks to the Pioneer Woman. I seriously ate an entire bowl of leftover baked beans for dinner tonight. And of course all the bacon pieces that I could hunt down that were still in the tupperware. (Don't tell me you don't try to take all the bacon... I know you do.)

And dessert? Yesterday's ice cream sandwiches...

...and mini-pies!

These little two-bite pies are so cute. I made a peach crumb, and a blueberry lattice. Pretty simple but very tedious and time-consuming. If anybody's interested in me posting the recipes, let me know!

It was just so much fun to have people in our home. I love the excitement of planning the menu, getting everything together, and the last-minute little details. So much fun! Maybe that's why I had so much fun planning my wedding. (Maybe I should have been an event planner instead of a math teacher... hmmm.)

Anybody need a party planner? I'm available the months of June, July, and August!

Question: What do you like the most/least about planning parties and/or other events?

The food. By far. I love planning the menu and trying out new recipes. It's not that much fun to cook for just two people because you don't want to waste anything!

I love a good party! And all the food looked delish!

I interned at an event planning company in college and had every intention of being one until I realized I liked having a life more than event planning. But honestly? I love everything about planning a party. I think it's all the details, I'm a big details person.
